Fractora Questions & Answers
Q1: What is Fractora and what does it do?
Fractora is the most advanced fractional radiofrequency(RF) treatment which provides anti-aging improvements on skin texture and tone for more radiant look by utilizing ablation and skin resurfacing.
Fractora delivers radiofrequency energy to the skin through an organized array of pins producing localized heat and small micro-lesion dots in the treatment area. The gentle heat generated by the Fractora pins in the sub-dermal tissue promotes collagen restructuring for skin rejuvenation and an improved appearance in the skin. The methodical scattering of micro-lesions allows the skin to heal faster than if the entire area was ablated. What this means is that the majority of repair is being done under the skin, maximizing your results, but the damage to the surface is more minimal, allowing you to heal faster and better than with traditional resurfacing machines like Fraxel and CO2 technologies. Fractora is a more intense treatment, allowing us to treat deeper lines and scarring than with Matrix RF.
Fractora can be performed by Dr. Khan on high setting or our technicians on lower settings. This dual function allows patients to receive more intense results with a bit more downtime or a series of treatments with much lower downtime, but more treatments for maximum results. The Inmode machine has separate attachments for each modality. The same handpiece is used for Fractora whether Dr. Khan or the technicians do the treatment but different settings are used as well as different treatment tips.
Q2: Best candidates to receive Fractora treatments?
An ideal candidate is a patient with mild to moderate wrinkles, loose lax skin, and superficial textural abnormalities. Typically, our patients are those who want to avoid a facelift, but are looking for tighter, younger, more rejuvenated skin.
Fractora device can be safely and effectively used on any body area. In clinical applications, the device has been safely and effectively utilized on the face, neck, hands, chest, back, and extremities. Best of all, because Fractora utilizes radiofrequency energy rather than a monochromatic laser, it is safer in dark skin types, including Fitzpatrick types IV and V.
Q3: What areas are treated with Fractora?
Because the RF depth is variable, and different treatments tips (both is size and depth) can be used, treatments can be customized for each person which is unique to this machine relative to other RF machines. Fractora can be used in areas that reveal fine or deep wrinkles, scars, or excesseively discolored red and brown skintone. The most commonly treated areas include lower eyelid, smile lines, cheeks, mouth, and neck. Most often the face and neck are treated together, it is also possible to treat smalller areas like the cheeks and nose, where there may be localized acne scarring. Fractora treatments have also been done on stretchmarks on the body.
Fractora can be combined with other treatments including Forma(which can be done the same day to tighten skin) to enhance the effects. Fractora can also be used in the same treatment session or a few days after other treatments. It can also be combined with additional energy treatments such as IPL or injectibles to achieve a more extensive full face result, called a Fractotal facial
Q4: How quickly will I see results?
Fractora treatment requires approximately 30 minutes to be performed. Patients typically apply a topical anesthetic agent one hour prior to the procedure to make it painless. Most patients observe significant improvement after just one session, but many patients choose to have a series of multiple treatments performed to achieve even greater results. Multiple treatments are also ideal for patients who want more treatments at lower energies.
When you leave, there will be redness and swelling of the treated zone. The redness and swelling will be more significant for treatments done by Dr. Khan, and you may have some additional bruising at the injection points too. You should follow the post-care instructions given to you, and keep the area very moist with Aquaphor, as advised. The swelling and redness will subside over the coming days, but you should expect that it can persist for up to a week (or more if you are prone to swelling), particularly on the higher settings. You should be able to put on makeup and cover most redness after a few days, but again this depends on your body's healing.
You should have realistic expectations and remember that multiple sessions may be necessary. Fractora results will continue to develop over the coming months, as new collagen is created. Each session will further ablate and resurface the skin, resulting in a reduction of wrinkles, skin laxity, textural irregularities, and scarring. Follow-up treatments may be needed in the future to maintain results and are offered at a discounted rate after the initial treatment package is completed. Remember that with Fractora we are changing your skin and your collagen, so while results can take a month or so to start appearing, they will continue to build over time, and the results won't just disappear overnight after a year or so. Your skin will be refreshed and renewed, and then will start to age again naturally, which is why many patients will elect maintenance treatments in the coming years.
If you are having the treatments done by the technicians, you will have a treatment every 3-4 weeks, for 3 treatments. If you are having a treatment by Dr. Khan and wish to have more than one done at the higher parameters, you will wait longer between treatments.
Q5: What is the benefit of fractionated energy?
Fractora safely and effectively treats rhytids (wrinkles), scarring, loose skin, and poor skin tone/texture. Additionally, patients note improvement in superficial pigmentation and vascularity.
Fractionated RF energy found in Fractora is a scientifically proven method that reduces wrinkles. It is minimally invasive, using a matrix of micro-pins to resurface and restore the skin, proven exceptional results. Fractora treatment will improve skin complexion and texture for a more radiant and youthful appearance.
Q5: How long do the results from Fractora last?
Fractora stimulates the production of new collagen to remodel and rejuvenate the skin. As a result of this new collagen production, the results are typically permanent. Unfortunately, patients will continue to age, so future treatments are necessary to maintain these wonderful cosmetic improvements Additionally, I would recommend monthly facial Silkpeel or Forma and good skin care products to produce continuing results.
Q6: What kind of post procedure care is required?
Patients should moisturize the treatment area, avoid direct sun exposure and keep the area very moist with Aquaphor, as advised. It is also recommended that patients use a good, broad spectrum sunscreen every day. In addition to reducing their future risk of skin cancer, sunscreens also reduce wrinkles and slow the aging process.
Q7: What products would you recommend a future Esthetic Med Spa reader to buy?
In our office, our first recommendation is for patients to use a good, broad spectrum sunscreen every day. In addition to reducing their future risk of skin cancer, sunscreens also reduce wrinkles and slow the aging process. Topical retinoids used daily are also a wonderful to exfoliate the skin, lighten fine lines and rejuvenate your look — best of all, many topical retinoid formulations are available as generics and are relatively inexpensive.
